What the Register shows
The Core Skills Occupation List is specified by the Migration (Specification of Occupations—Subclass 482 Visa) Instrument 2024, registered as F2024L01620, which commenced on 7 December 2024 alongside the Skills in Demand visa.
Opened on 31 August 2026, that instrument's Register entry states its status as "In force", and shows it as the latest version, at Compilation No. F2025C01064, compiled as at 7 November 2025.
A compilation is the consolidated text of an instrument including any amendments made to it. That the latest compilation is dated November 2025 means no later amendment has been registered against it.
What Jobs and Skills Australia publishes about the review
Jobs and Skills Australia ran a Core Skills Occupation List consultation in 2025. Its consultation page sets out a five-stage process. The final stage is described on that page as the Minister releasing the list "with legislative instruments on the Federal Register of Legislation".
Read on 31 August 2026, the page shows the consultation closed on 26 September 2025. It does not show that the final stage has been reached, and it links to no final advice document or release.
What this means for the phrase "2026 CSOL"
SVH could not locate, on the Federal Register of Legislation, any instrument registered in 2025 or 2026 that specifies a replacement Core Skills Occupation List. Nor could it locate a media release from the Home Affairs or Employment and Workplace Relations portfolios announcing one.
On the published record, the occupations specified for the Core Skills stream are those in the December 2024 instrument as compiled in November 2025.
Where a page describes a "2026 CSOL", the question worth asking of it is which instrument it is citing. An occupation list used for a visa programme exists as a legislative instrument with a registration number and a commencement date. If a page does not name one, there may not be one to name.
Why SVH is recording this
A list that has not changed and a list that has changed look identical in a summary. The difference is only visible in the Register.
SVH publishes what the source documents state, with the document, the date, and the number attached, so that a reader can open the same page and see the same thing. That is the entire method, and this is a case where it produces an answer at odds with a good deal of what is being written.
What SVH has not verified
The number of occupations in the instrument is stated in its own schedule. SVH was not able to render that table through automated retrieval and therefore does not state a count here. Anyone needing the figure should read the schedule directly at the source link below.
