Skilled Occupation List — Australia

Australia's Department of Home Affairs publishes several lists of skilled occupations that determine eligibility for employer-sponsored, independent, and regional skilled visas. Search all 504 active occupations below.

What is the Skilled Occupation List?

The Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) covers occupations in demand for four or more years. Occupations on this list are eligible for the Subclass 189 Skilled Independent visa, state-sponsored Subclass 190, and regional Subclass 491 visas — the broadest pathway available under the points-tested system.

The Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) covers occupations in demand for up to two years. These occupations are eligible for the Subclass 190 state-nominated and Subclass 491 regional streams, but do not qualify for the Subclass 189 independent pathway.

The Regional Occupation List (ROL) covers occupations specifically needed in regional Australia. Eligible for the Subclass 491 regional visa only. Applicants must live and work in a designated regional area.

Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) — Skills in Demand Visa

The Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) is the newest addition to Australia's skilled occupation framework. It underpins the Skills in Demand (SID) visa, which replaced the Subclass 482 TSS visa in December 2024. Unlike the MLTSSL/STSOL/ROL (which govern independent and regional points-tested pathways), the CSOL is specifically for employer-sponsored applicants.

If your occupation appears with a “CSOL” badge on this page, your employer may be able to sponsor you for a Skills in Demand visa. Actual eligibility depends on your employer's approval status, salary requirements, and skills assessment. 370 of the 504 active occupations are currently on the CSOL.
