How paperwork levels work

We classify every country into one of three paperwork levels based on Home Affairs' published document checklists. Level 1 requires the least documentation; Level 3 the most. These are estimates — see the disclaimer below the scale.

Level 1 LeastLevel 1 — least paperwork
Level 2 StandardLevel 2 — standard paperwork
Level 3 MostLevel 3 — most paperwork

The Level 1/2/3 paperwork labels are StudyVisaHub's estimate, worked out from Home Affairs' published document checklists. Home Affairs does not publish which level applies to each country. None of these levels means refusal.

Processing Priority (Subclass 500)

Priority Processing for Providers

Under Ministerial Direction 115 (in force from 14 November 2025), DHA prioritises student visa applications based on your provider's NOSC allocation and applicant category. Processing speed varies from 1 week to 12+ weeks depending on where your provider sits.

Priority 1 — Fastest

1–4 weeks

School, ELICOS, postgraduate research, DFAT-sponsored, and Pacific/Timor-Leste applicants. Also applies to providers below 80% of their 2026 NOSC allocation.

Priority 2 — Standard

5–8 weeks

Most higher-education and VET applicants at providers sitting between 80–115% of their 2026 NOSC allocation.

Priority 3 — Slowest

9–12+ weeks

Applicants at providers that have exceeded 115% of their 2026 NOSC allocation. Expect the longest waits.
